  ACTIVITIES

Charity towards others, particularly the ill and indigent, has always been the heart of the Christian Church.  In Jesus’ description of the sheep and goats (Mt. 35) and his parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10), he lays out the unprecedented, boundless demands of love to neighbor.

Despite busy schedules, we would like to encourage as many as possible to volunteer themselves in any of the numerous programs, clinics, and homes for the poor around Dallas.  Some are listed below.

The St. Basil Society itself has sponsored several community service events, including preparing and delivering food for the homeless, visiting a nursing home, and a Christmas gift drive for indigent patients.

Our two regular service events include:

-PB&J for the Homeless: Students meet to prepare sandwich dinners, and them deliver them to area homeless

-Harvey’s Kids: Help with special needs kids at a church in Carrollton

We also encourage students to volunteer internationally, e.g. in the Diocesan Medical Mission Trip to Honduras or SCF Medical Mission Trip during Spring Break.

Saint Basil the Great Society

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”   1 Cor. 13:1-2
